Blogs and News Young Players SPCC U11 v St Margarets (Saxon Shore League

A sunny day brought out the crowds - unfortunately to see the team lose in the last over!  We batted first and started well with Josh W-W and Seth R putting on 15 for the first partnership losing 1 wicket.  Oliver S and Ben B then put on 13 for the next - this could have been better had 15 runs not been deducted for 3 wickets lost.  Next in was debutants Josh Wardle and Barney Gore who contributed a useful 15 runs again losing 1 wicket. The final pair of Harry W and Jack W then came to the crease and started to hit the boundaries regularly - Harry even managing a 6!  They both put on a partnership of 46, losing 1 wicket and we finished on 289.  A good score and two runs more than the previous week.

Second innings started well for us; Jack W starting with 2 maidens - in fact after 10 overs St Margarets were on 230, but only 6 runs had actually been scored by the batsmen - the rest were extras, but unfortunately no wickets.  By the 15th over the score was 232 for two, thus 58 was needed by their final pair in the last five overs.  The good news was that one of the pair only scored 5 runs - the bad news was that the other guy used his extra height and power to bludgeon the ball to the boundary with ease on his way to 47 and St Margarets finished on 300 for 2.

All the bowlers bowled well and should take comfort from the fact that only one guy managed to score 5 runs against us! Josh Wardle bowled particularly well finishing on 3 overs, 1 wkt for 4 runs, and Ben B took a good caught and bowled.

Seth again fielded well and Barney bowled economically in his first game, but this week's man of the match award went to Harry for his useful knock at the end of the first innings.

Looking forward to the next game.........
