Well what a weekend that was --- can hardly move this morning --- but a most enjoyable time . It all started with a badminton tounamont on friday ( that being my "main" game -- still playing a good standard !!1 Very stiff on sat when we played Bickley and then onto sun against Dover Comos --- I think a bridge too far for a youngster on my age !! Bickley was a really good effort against a good side -- just didnt quite get enough runs -- and lacked a strike bowler -- but still everyone kept on going -- look towards next week ( the only disapointment -- no Harveys -- really looking forward to that !!) Dover cosmos on sunday was a bit of an anti climax really . We put out a very good side and scored 201 -- but failed to take early wickets and they just hung around for a draw --- not too clever really. All in all a good time outside in the fresh air but then it all seems very insignificant when you hear about the latest news about the young people who have died through stabbings and beatings -- how very sad .
This is something that I certainly feel very strong about -- all the time these youngsters are getting away with carryijg knives they will continue to do so. As I have said before it is so important to intil discipline into young people -- as we do in the colts training etc. Sport is great for giving youngsters everything they need to be good citizens , teamwork, respect, fitness to name just a few. Lets hope this continues and they can be pointed in the right direction. Just also seem on the news about the spacecraft landing on mars --- is there life on mars (great Bowie track) we will soon know will we start to take loads of wickets and play well today --- more chance of that than finding life ( from what I have heared theres not too much life left in some of the youngsters after saturday matches nights out) Well off to have a hot bath and a day doing absolutely nothing --- oh the fun of being a pensioner !!!
