platewinners

Sibton Park U11s took part in the Kent 6 a side Junior Cricket Festival at St Lawrence and Highland Court on Monday - and won the Plate competition.

Juniors

This much postponed match was once again in jeopardy, after heavy overnight rain had made the main square at the Park, unplayable. Thank goodness for the new junior ground and the artificial, which provides a good test for both batsman and bowler.

Josh lost the toss for the nth time this year ( Jacob -- think you are the only Skipper this year to win the toss -- and that was only on one occasion ! ) and so we were bowling first on a day when you could smell runs in the air !

Juniors

Hawkinge hadn't won a game in the League all season, so it came as a relief when they won the toss and inserted the boys on a decent track -- I felt that we had a chance to post our best total of the season to date and I wasn't going to be disappointed.

Juniors

A number of the boys had returned, in the early hours of Saturday morning, from a school trip to Venice - and is showed in a downbeat display at the Grove on Sunday.

Josh made it clear that he wanted to chase on this occasion, but the decision was taken away from him, when schoolmate Joe Shields won the toss and inserted the Park. There were a few nerves flying around -- and a bit of friendly sledging too, which did for Josh early on in an edgy display from him. But Cammy took advantage of some wayward Hythe bowling, to post his top score and retire for the first time this season - and with good support from Charles, Michael and James towards the end of the innings, we managed to reach 94 for 8 in our allotted 20 overs.

Juniors

On a rain affected Sunday morning the boys put up a good perfomance but came up second best against a good Sandwich team currently top of the table unbeaten.

Bowling first everyone did well; with Harry W, Josh W-W and current leading wicket taker Ben Fairclough all amongst the wickets.  There were also good run-outs from Jack W and Henry R.  George bowled well again, Jonathan S continued his fine form behind the stumps and Seth took a good catch - so everyone contributed well. However Sandwich had strength in depth and managed to score 324 in their 20 overs.

Sibton U11s suffered a recent heavy defeat in the league to this decent Nonington team, so knew in advance that a much better performance would be required to overcome the opposition in this cup semi-final.

Nonington batted first and what followed was a really good bowling and fielding effort by the Sibton boys. Jack W (4-2-3-1) bowled with typical pace and accuracy and skipper Harry (4-0-17-1) also caused problems for the batsmen. Josh W-W (3-0-31-1) and Ben F (2-0-17-2) backed up the opening bowlers well, followed by tight bowling from Seth (3-1-4-1), Ben B (2-0-9-0) and Barney (2-0-7-0). No byes in the innings reflected well on Isaac behind the stumps but also on the strength and accuracy of Josh’s arm, fielding at 3rd man. The Nonington batsmen dared not risk a run to him after he effected a run out with a direct hit in the first over. As a result of this good bowling and fielding, Nonington were restricted to 262/6.

Juniors

Highland Court was an absolute picture on Sunday morning, freshened up by overnight rain, which for a time threatened yet another U13 fixture. I am so glad we went ahead though -- the sun came out and with a true grass pitch and a very fast outfield, the boys had the opportunity to show us what they can do.

Juniors

The Park U13's returned to winning ways on Sunday with a comfortable win over local rivals Elham. Josh won the toss and surprisingly elected to bowl first on a beautiful morning at the Park -- with a good crowd in to watch the game.

Juniors

The Under 17s batted first against Hythe in their friendly at Sibton on Friday evening and they started pretty brightly.  Adam Daughters got out early just after hitting a luscious cover drive but Francis Gush and Jamie Keeler soon starting stroking the ball all round the park.
