Big game this one, top of the league and obviously a decent side with the results they have put in. We won the toss and batted on a hot day and what looked a flat deck, Osborne went early again after looking pretty comfortable, and Payney and carbo started to build a good partnership. Carbo started to look good, and was hitting it well, but had a rush of blood to the head and stupidly got himself out when a big score was on. Lodgey looked very good at the crease suporting payney who looked so at ease at the crease and scoring freely to some at times wayward bowling, Lodgey went for 15, Payney continued and eventually holed out to long on for a superb knock scoring 105.

I had forgotten how gorgeous this little ground is and when the oppo finally had a quorum of players at about 2.20pm we were able to start what turned out to be a very enjoyable game of cricket. They only had 9 players – and lost another one for an over when fine leg had to go off the field to turn on the tea urn at about 4pm – but such are the nuances of village cricket !

Bishopsbourne ofcourse, do not have the luxury of covers, so the pitch was a little damp after the rain of the previous day and would get lower generally, as the afternoon wore on, with a bit of inconsistent bounce, so a good call from Oz to bat first again.

Rain/bad light stopped play!

An interesting situation, one where many an umpire across the county weren't popular looking at some of the results.

We were inserted in damp conditions, having been delayed 10 minutes. Again a decent start against some decent bowling, with James Mills beating the bat many times, likewise Ben Trott who removed George early with a good ball.

AA and Bish kept it going, before Mr Trott removed AA for 27. A really good partnership between Bish and Ben really took the game to Whitstable, before the umpire decided he couldn't see and brought everyone in, to both teams amazement. After an early tea and a 30 minutes rain interval play resumed with Bish and Ben getting 50's, before the game swung again as both were dismissed by Ben Trott, with Hobo in the middle!!

Well not much to say really, we played 18 overs then it decided to rain hard all day. They were 77 for 2 of the 18, looked a very good side and this would have been a very interesting game. One major thing from this, again a couple of drop catches, but everyone was so quiet once they started to score steadily, we need to pick this up next week and stay on it and expect the ball to come to us every time. We must support the bowlers, it does make a huge difference if everyone picks it up, puts a little pressure on the batsmen and gets the bowler pumped up a bit more. Anyway game called off at 3pm and then the drinking games started! oh dear is all I can say, very heavy session.

Dartford away next week and they are top.

It was a relief to see a few grey hairs heading towards the pavilion before the start of the game on Sunday – and thankfully, they belonged to the opposition, so we knew that this was going to be much more suitable to the Development X1 concept, than the previous game against Sandwich.

The importance of the toss was also at the opposite end of the spectrum from the previous game – it was the hottest day of the year by far and it was with some relief for us all when I was able to ask Jordan and Dennis to get their pads on !
