Chance to Shine cricket training to schools.

training and festival days.

Have you got the book?

If you haven't recived our 2007 Guide to Young Player's Cricket yet, please see Nigel, Dave or Phil and get your copy. It has everything you need in there about everything. Well almost, anyway.

New club photographer

Peter Stratton took some great pictures of Sunday's cup win against Nonington His new-style team picture looked so much like an album cover I could hardly resist hitting it with the effects brush. You can get to the unpolluted original by clicking on the version on the left.

Nonington, to be fair, were under strength due to last minute illness. Hard to imagine a better day for cricket, however.

Folkestone humbled again !
Sibton Park U11's were once again victorious against a Folkestone side
At the weekend in a key Saxon Shore league game. This time, it was the
turn of Folkestone A to taste defeat at the hands of a very competitive Park
side, who showed a lot of character to recover from a dodgy start with the
bat to post a respectable score of 256. William Roberts started the recovery with 2 consecutive square cuts to the boundary - and Sam Ansell continued the
Good work in the next pairing. A decent total was cemented by the last pair
With Michael Begley's stout defence allowing Josh Woodward to flourish and
They both set a wonderful example of how to run between the wickets !
A reasonable start for Folkestone was pegged back by some accurate
Bowling and some fine fielding - yet another Harry Moore run out assist was a highlight - as was a key over from Michael Begley, which together with his contribution with the bat, quite rightly earned him this week's MOM award.

The Park have now won 3 out of 4 league games and sit firmly at the top of the table !

Super 8s - New teams, new gear, new competition

The Park's first venture in the Under 9's competition proved a very enjoyable afternoon at the wind swept county ground at Folkestone. Six teams, two from Folkestone and Ashford, plus the Park and Elham played in the local 'cluster' in a 'round robin' format. The Park beat the two Folkestone teams, lost to the two Ashford teams and came second by 2 runs in an exciting encounter with local rivals Elham. The squad of 10 all starred in a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of Kwik cricket with vociferous support from parents, family and friends. Most economic bowler was young Flo Moffat-White who up to 6 weeks ago had never bowled a ball, her overs were delivered without conceding any no balls or wides. Well done coaches, an excellent prospect for the future.

U11 v Sandwich A VALIANT EFFORT
Sibton were inserted on a misty morning and with the dew lingering until mid-morning, it was a good toss to win for a strong Sandwich "A" side.
Cammy Stratton and Edward Toner made a fine start for Sibton with the bat and the former's fine striking, including two boundaries, contributed towards an excellent innings of 16 in his allotted 4 overs.
The rest of the batsmen faced some fine bowling and fielding and with wickets falling on a regular basis, the Park struggled to 223.
However, there was a strong determination in the dressing-room to put the pressure on in the field -- and that is exactly what was achieved. After 10 overs, Sandwich had only added 4 runs to the total and a quite startling result was suddenly on the cards. In the end, it proved impossible to keep this going and some quality batting at the end saw the visitors home by a meagre 15 runs.
Jack Woodward, once again, was the pick of the bowlers by knocking the stumps over 3 times and Cammy's pick up and throw over the top of the stumps for a classy run out, was the highlight of the fielding performance. This, coupled with his fine innings, made Cammy an easy choice for this week's MOM award.

Another convincing victory
Sibton U11's secured their second successive victory in the Saxon Shore League, with a convincing 47 run victory over Sandwich B on Sunday.
Sibton won the toss and batted first and made a challenging 299, with the loss of only 4 wickets.
Andrew Lester and Josh Woodward both scored heavily and were the main contributors with the bat.
Jack Woodward was the pick of the bowlers -- taking 3 wickets for 3 runs in 3 overs. The bowling was generally tidy and 11 wickets were taken in all -- the second consecutive week that maximum bowling points have been taken.
Harry Moore starred in the field and a very strong throw from the boundary right over the top of the stumps for a run out, was the highlight.
Josh again took 3 stumpings and this, coupled with his attractive shot-making, made him an obvious choice for this week's MOM award.

Smooth Operation

On Sunday 29th April, the Park U11's started their Saxon Shore League season in fine style, with a commanding 131 run victory over arch rivals Folkestone "B".
Folkestone won the toss and inserted Sibton on a wet morning and there were a couple of interruptions to play as the Park scored steadily to reach a very espectable 285. Nearly all of the batsmen made positive scores and patience was required as both the damp conditions and the standard of the opposition bowling, made scoring very difficult.
The contrast with Sibton's bowling, could not have been more stark --the Park's bowlers were on top form and showed wonderful discipline to bowl straight with a " soapy " ball to take a remarkable 19 wickets -- with every bowler taking at least one wicket !
Vice Captain Jacob Wells took 3 wickets and skipper Josh Woodward bagged a couple of stumpings -- but the the Man of the Match award went to debutant Edward Toner, who added a couple of wickets to a solid performance as an opening batsmen

Training 2007
Once again the use of the word "every" has been made just a little problematical because of Midweek games. We can't say training "every" Monday through the season because there are a couple of occasions in July and August when there will be senior matches going on until late.
Nigel has mapped out a training schedule which he has entered onto a planner for the summer. You can download yours here, though there is one in the middle of this year's Young Player's Guide.

Simon Langton Girl's School signs up
This year we have six schools in the Sibton Chance to shine scheme, as Simon Langton Girl's School join and add cricket to their sporting curriculum for very first time.
